About

Rekindle Studio is the pyrography project of Toronto-based artist, Erika Wharton-Shukster. The name reflects a central conviction: that discarded materials deserve a second life. Erika works entirely by hand, collecting fallen branches and wood scraps on city walks, sourcing leather off-cuts and secondhand items. These unlikely canvases are then reworked and burned with care.

Pyrography (often called wood burning) is the art of decorating material by burning it with a heated tool. The name comes from the Greek words pyro (fire) and graphos (writing), literally translating to "writing with fire".
